Smoke-free hospital

HOSPITAL DE SANT PAU, SMOKE-FREE HOSPITAL

Reducing the habit of smoking is one of the priorities of the WHO in Europe and is one of the criteria for the accreditation of hospitals by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) in several countries. In this country, under current legislation, it is forbidden to smoke in healthcare centres, except in expressly restricted areas (Laws 20/85 and 10/91). For these reasons, the Hospital de Sant Pau has joined the Smoke-Free Hospitals Project, which aims to restrict the consumption of tobacco in healthcare centres and progressively reduce the habit of smoking in the population.

What is a smoke-free hospital?
A smoke-free hospital is a healthcare centre in which consumption of tobacco is restricted, taking everybody’s opinion into consideration and with the involvement of all of the professionals who work there, the bodies they represent and the users.
